The report, “On-Bill Financing: Helping Small Business Reduce Emissions and Energy Use While Improving Profitability,” found that small business can reduce their carbon emissions by 259 million tons per year — or the equivalent of taking 25 million cars off the road — while saving an average of $5,000 per year in wasteful energy costs. As Todd McCracken, president of the National Small Business Association, puts it:
“This report obliterates that old paradigm that environmental conservation is anathema to economic growth. Quite simply, small businesses can increase their profitability while reducing their carbon footprint.”
This report is another addition to the growing library of research that supports the economic and environmental benefits to cutting energy waste. The Energy Future Coalition’s Rebuilding America initiative is working hard for the policies necessary to make more efficient small businesses and homes a reality.
